La clave, según su fundador, se resume en cuatro puntos:
- Toma riesgos: 1995. Inicia con ventas en línea de libros físicos para después sumarle libros electrónicos.
- Conocer al consumidor: 1999. Reconociendo el crecimiento de las ventas en línea, se suma a la plataforma artículos como música, dvd, electrónicos, juguetes y utensilios de cocina, aumentando la popularidad de los nuevos consumidores en línea.
- Innovación: 2005. Buscando la lealtad de sus muchos consumidores alrededor del mundo crea el concepto Prime, ofreciendo el despacho más rápido de artículos seleccionados, logrando que las ventas de todo tipo de artículos se incrementaran.
